The Tiffany Blue Box®
Since its debut in the mid-1800s, the Tiffany Blue Box® has symbolised far more than the precious design it contains. It has long overflowed with promises: of possibility, dreams and, of course, love.
One hundred years later, it was at Tiffany’s famed location at the intersection of 57th Street and Fifth Avenue that the packaging’s final touch was added: the white satin ribbon that adorns all Blue Boxes today. Carefully tied in a bow, it unfurls with one gentle pull to reveal the extraordinary Tiffany & Co. piece within.
Widely regarded as the most recognisable and coveted packaging in the world, the Blue Box is only available with a purchase at Tiffany & Co., a tradition that dates to our founder.
Long before brands had signature colours, the distinctive Tiffany Blue® hue was selected by founder Charles Lewis Tiffany for the cover of Blue Book, Tiffany’s catalogue of exquisitely handcrafted jewels, first published in 1845.
An integral piece of the House’s DNA, Tiffany Blue® was trademarked by Tiffany in 1998 and was standardised by the Pantone® Matching System to ensure that the hue, wherever it appears on Tiffany packaging, designs and advertising, is always the same. The custom colour that Pantone created for Tiffany is called “1837 Blue,” named for the year Tiffany & Co. was founded, and a tribute to the longevity of our founder’s vision.
Today, Tiffany Blue® and the Blue Box continue to make hearts beat faster—especially when diamonds are involved.
