Behind the Design: The Jellyfish Brooch

Re-envisioning Jean Schlumberger La Méduse brooch, the Jellyfish brooch pays homage to the designer’s masterwork by giving new life to it.

Creating Motion and Movement

Rendered to evoke tentacles, 18k yellow gold and sapphires create a unique “dancing” motion—a hallmark of Jean Schlumberger designs. To create the dome, artisans set tanzanites alongside moonstones and diamonds in a unique curved platinum setting. Light reflects between the stones, accentuating the iridescence and luminosity of the moonstones. For the 18k yellow gold tentacles, which are adorned with baguette sapphires, Tiffany’s expert craftspeople replicated the same hand engraving featured on Schlumberger’s famed La Méduse brooch that inspired this new creation.
“We preserved and magnified the fundamentals of Jean Schlumberger’s aesthetic, staying true to our heritage while reinventing it. Today, thanks to the know-how of our artisans and modern innovations, we have achieved the once impossible.”
Nathalie Verdeille, Chief Artistic Officer, Tiffany & Co.
