Frequently Asked Questions
  1. Soak gold or platinum jewellery in the Tiffany jewellery cleaner solution.
  2. After 2 minutes, remove the jewellery from the solution using tweezers.
  3. Using a soft, fine-grained brush, gently brush between the back and crevices of the jewellery to remove any dirt or residue.
  4. Rinse your gold or platinum jewellery, then gently dry and polish with a Tiffany polishing cloth.

If you bring your Tiffany jewellery to the store, you may request a professional cleaning service.

Gold does tarnish and scratch over time. To preserve the luster of your gold jewellery, avoid exposure to household bleach and other cleaning products, which will quickly cause gold to discolour and possibly disintegrate. We recommend that you store your gold jewellery in a safe place when engaging in these activities:

  1. Performing household and outdoor chores (i.e. cleaning and gardening)
  2. Showering, bathing or swimming in pools, hot tubs, hot springs and the ocean
  3. Using lotion, hair products, fragrances and other cosmetics
  4. Exercising at the gym or during contact sports
  5. Preparing meals
When not being worn, we recommend that you place your gold jewellery back in its Tiffany Blue® flannel pouch for safekeeping.

Only polishing will remove scratches from gold and platinum. However, the patina of fine scratches that develops over time can add beauty to the jewellery and can reflect the journey a piece has taken. The polishing process removes metal and is only recommended to be carried out a few times over the life of the piece.

We recommend that gold and platinum only be polished by a professional. Any Tiffany store can fulfill polishing requests.

It is important to properly store jewellery when travelling, moving or at home in between uses. Keep jewellery in a storage box away from the elements whenever possible and separated to prevent pieces from becoming tangled or disarranged.

Storing Jewellery at Home

If your jewellery is used frequently, avoid excessive exposure to air and store it in a tarnish-proof cloth, such as the flannel pouch provided with your Tiffany & Co. piece or a storage box. Good storage boxes are lined with tarnish-proof fabric and have a separate space for each individual piece.

Packing Jewellery When Travelling

It is important to keep jewellery organised and protected while travelling. When travelling with several pieces, we recommend storing items in a box or bag with separate compartments. This will protect jewellery from becoming tangled or disarranged. Make sure items are away from clothing to prevent snags. Wear or carry any valuable pieces with you in case your luggage is lost.

Packing Jewellery for a Move

When moving, keep all items in their permanent storage location. If you are using a jewellery box, wrap and package individual pieces and place back in the box. Once all pieces have been protected and stored, secure your jewellery box with moving materials, like you would with any other piece of furniture.

We recommend customers bring jewellery in at least once a year. Items worn regularly should be cleaned and checked every few months. This is especially true for engagement rings but applies to all regularly worn pieces.
